Mortal Kombat Rebirth

This trailer is just awesome.

For a long time now the Mortal Kombat franchise has been a bit of a joke, with cheesy film after cheesy film, and bad game after bad game. It’s good to see that Mortal Kombat’s luck may be turning around.

The above video was making the rounds yesterday, with everyone wondering just what this trailer was for. Was it a game trailer or a film trailer? Well according to IGN, it’s actually a film trailer. Jeri Ryan via Twitter confirmed that this video was in fact a trailer for a Mortal Kombat film, which was made to sell WB on the director’s vision for a re-imagining of the Mortal Kombat franchise.

What amazes me is that this short was filmed for about $7,500 since most of the work was done for free. I guess it just shows you that you don’t need a lot of money to make a film these days. In any case, I wish the director, Kevin Tancharoen, luck on selling his vision to WB. Hopefully we will be seeing something soon.
