The Elite DRM machine

Ars Technica is reported that the Microsoft XBox 360 Elite may be coming with some new restrictions and rules. Apparently, some of the restrictions may include:
  • Not being able to transfer data from the 120 GB hard drive to the 20 GB hard drive
  • data stored on the 120GB hard disk will be automatically deleted
  • any data stored on the 20 GB hard drive will be deleted once it is moved over to another drive
  • You can't move data from multiple drives over to the 120 GB version
  • And finally, once the data has been moved it can't be moved back to the original drive that it was on previously

I think that some of these rules are with in reason given the fact that the Microsoft has a responsibility to protect their content, as well as, the content being provided to them from other developers. But at the same time, Microsoft must realize that there may be many people out there that have filled one or more drives with content from XBox Live or wish to back up the stuff that they have downloaded.

Microsoft, instead of protecting their content may actually be creating a situation where they are encouraging more piracy. I believe that people may not want to go through the trouble of re-buying their content or re-Downloading it(if Microsoft allows them to do so). Leading some people to think of alternatives, such as, find ways of hacking the system or finding ways to copy their content. Which of course would be a bad situation for Microsoft.

Content producers need to come to the realization that the more they lock down their content, the more people will be encourage to pirate, and until they realize this, we will have to deal with more situations like the XBox Elite. Not that Microsoft is completely the bad guy in this situation, as I can bet that the MPAA probably has something to do with these new rules. I had hoped that Microsoft would push back against content producers and allow for more openness in their system. But I guess, we can only hope for some in the future.

Why has this video had over 200,000 views on YouTube

I first learned about this video while watching "Attack of the Show", on which it was featured for having over 200, 000 views on YouTube. I still can't figure out why it has received so many views. Sure she is a pretty girl, but this video has absolutely no other value than that. And so, it begs the question, "Are we really that shallow to view videos, just because there is pretty girl in the video? I hope we aren't.

I bared all to prove nude pics were fakes

Celeb Gossips is reporting that Vida Guerra (Actress/Model) is posing nude, for Playboy, because she wanted to demonstrate that the nude photos of her on the internet are fake. I think that this is probably the dumbest excuss that I have ever heard someone use. If she wants to pose nude she should just say so. I could at lest have some respect for her honesty. But to make up a lame excuse, I think is an unwise decision on her part and a somewhat insulting to my intelligence.

Do Christians Believe They are Better than Everyone Else?

I recently came across this video (posted above) on Digg.com, in which Bill Maher comments that Christians believe that he is inferior to Christians because they have a "Truth" that he doesn't have. As a Christian, I don't' believe that I am better than anyone else, but I must say that there are probably Christians that believe that they are superior to non-Christians (which I will apologize for).

So, are Christians really superior to non Believers? I don't think so, nor does Jesus think so. When Jesus was thinking of this issue he stated in Matthew 11:25, "...I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes...". I hardly think that this could be made into much of an argument for Christian superiority, since her refers to his disciples as "babes" and those that didn't follow him as "the wise and the prudent".

The truth is that it is often the "wise people" that don't believe in Christianity. Does this make Christianity invalid? No, it just puts it in good company with other truths from the past. The wise once believed that the world was the center of the universe and flat. It wasn't until Christopher Columbus that the wise believe the world was round and until Galileo proved that the world wasn't the center of the Universe did the wise believe. Needless to say, can I say that Christianity is the absolute truth? I believe it is but for me to say that I can prove it 100%, I would be lying to you. I can prove somethings but the reset is up to faith on the part of the hearer (or reader). So, do I believe we are superior? I think not.

Mel Goes Ballistic -- "Lady, F**k Off!"

TMZ (which you can read here) is reporting that Mel Gibson told a women to "F*k Off" when she commented that she believed that he over stereotyped the Mayan culture and accused him of racism. Now I wouldn't usually comment on things like this, but I feel sorry for Mel. People seem to want to go after this guy and to see racism where there is none. And I don't falt him for getting mad with this women who from the article clearly went after him.

RIAA Insists on Deposing Tanya Andersen's 10-year-old daughter

The site "The Recording Industry vs The People" (which you can read here) is reporting that the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) is planning on suing a 10 year old girl for copyright infringement. Apparently, they were first suing her disabled mother, but now they have decided to go after the daughter, as well. This is pretty sicking, and if I wasn't a law bidding citizen, and a believer in buying my music, I would probably pirate it so that I don't have to sponsor these lawsuits.

YouTubers Sue Viacom Over Stephen Colbert Clip

Earlier, I posted a video of the Daily Shows take on Viacom suing Youtube. But, in a strange turn of events Mashable (which you can read here) is reporting that the EFF (The Electronic Frontier Foundation) is suing Viacom on the removal of clips that are viewed not to be in violation of any copyright, such as a clip called “Stop the Falsiness”, which is a parody of The Colbert Report.

Here is a video put out on this issue by the EFF.

Apple TV's Blurry Future

This is the title of an article written in "Business Week" (which you can read here). The article states:
The best thing about Apple TV is that it tries to do for video what the iPod has done for music. The worst thing about Apple TV isthat it tries to do for video what the iPod has done for music.
The reason for this paradox: Apple's laudable effort to simplify video downloads by running everything through iTunes leaves too much good content out in the cold.

And, I have to say that I agree with him. Living in Canada, I don't have access to any of the TV Shows or movies that iTunes is currently offering. So, as a Canadian if I was interested in watching movies or TV shows, then the Apple TV wouldn't be something that I would buy.

The article goes on to talk about the poor quality of the Movies and TV shows in iTunes (which I will not comment on). But, one thing that he seems to have left out of his article is the ability to watch Podcasts on the Apple TV. This could be the only saving grace for the Apple TV. I would love to watch my Podcasts on my TV, but I don't have anything to watch it on. If the Apple TV can deliver on this maybe I will pick one up.

I would like to know what you guys think of this. Please leave your thoughts in the comment sections.
